Sometimes called off-road strollers, all terrain strollers are based on a three wheel chassis, like jogging strollers. However, the front wheel on all terrain strollersis not fixed; it is free to swivel increasing maneuverability.

Large wheels and plush suspension allow all terrain strollers to easily go where you go. Hiking trails, the beach or really bad concrete are no longer a problem. Other features you should look at when choosing an all terrain stroller are:

Canopy size: Your baby is going to need plenty of protection from sunshine and the elements on those long hikes.
Reclining Seat: Some models offer these, but a lot don't. They makes for a happier rider.
Weight: The smaller the stroller the easier to push, but you don't want to sacrifice frame strength or carrying capacity.
Parent tray: For storage and drinks, these handy consoles will make you a much happier pusher.
Storage: Vital for taking all of baby's must haves while out and about.

Like jogging strollers, all terrain baby strollers should not be used with newborns. Their weak neck muscles can't support their head with the motion of the stroller. Typically, 6 months is youngest age recommended for these baby strollers.

Transporting these strollers is not as easy as umbrella strollers or full size strollers. They do fold but for maximum small storage you will need to remove the wheels.

Expect to pay between $300-$400 for all terrain strollers. While not the cheapest category of baby strollers out there, they offer a wide range features that make them extremely versatile.
