While some manufacturers approve children as young as six weeks to ride in a jogging stroller, most health professionals say 6-8 months is the appropriate age. A baby needs a strong neck and head support to accommodate the motion of a jogging stroller.

Jogging Strollers have three large, air filled rubber wheels which make pushing it while running easier. Unlike similar looking all terrain strollers, jogging stroller's front wheel is stationary or lockable. This makes running easier but limits maneuverability. If you plan on running with your child make sure to purchase a true jogging stroller. Other baby strollers lack the mechanics and safety features necessary to insure a safe and comfortable ride.

Features to consider when looking for a jogging stroller are:

Large Wheels: The bigger the wheels the easier it will be to push the stroller. jogging strollers are bigger and heavier than regular strollers so having bigger wheels will help. Look for at least 16" wheels, but more than 20" is recommended.
Hand Brakes: A convenient hand brake will increase safety and make sure you and baby both stop when needed.
Wrist Strap: This safety feature should be attached to you at all times. It will keep the stroller from getting away if you were to happen to fall or trip.
Suspension: A good suspension with shock absorbers combines with air filled tires to give baby a smooth ride.
Sun Canopy: A large canopy will insure your little runner to be is protected from the elements and sunshine.

Since jogging strollers are bigger due to the wheels, heavy duty suspension and larger canopies their weight and size can be an issue. They are not easily folded for transportation; often the front wheel must be removed.

Price too can be a bit high; while most strollers are in the $200-$400 range, some can exceed $700.

Jogging Strollers are not versatile and will not serve as all purpose strollers like a standard full size stroller would. However, if you plan on getting out and getting some physical activity in they are the only way to go. They offer the construction and safety needed to make sure both you and baby have good run.
